Yves-Marie Stranger is the best writer I’ve worked with.

Hapte-Selassie Tafesse (the ‘father of Ethiopian tourism’)

Yves’ interpreting is top-notch. Honestly, he’s the best interpreter I’ve ever worked with. He traveled with our group of high government people from Niger in Ethiopia for four days, interpreting complex agricultural terms and concepts with ease during our meetings and field trips. And in Yves we also got a tour guide as well! Profound knowledge of Ethiopian history, cultures and countryside. What a wonderful experience!

Megan Kyles, Agriculture Development Officer, USAID Niger

Mr. Yves-Marie Stranger worked for us during a European-African conference on quality in statistics. No matter how complex the technical terms, no matter how fast the speakers did their presentation, Yves-Marie did an excellent job in simultaneous interpretation both from English to French and vice versa. Very professional – highly recommendable.

Daniel Lechner, Icon Institute, Köln

Thank you for your interpreting which was not only professional but was both lively and to the point.

Gary Jones, Senior AIDS Security and Humanitarian Advisor (UNAID), Nairobi, Kenya

I was a delegate in an East Africa Power Pool meeting in Addis (21st April/25th April 2014), where Yves-Marie Stranger was interpreting both English and French. I liked his excellent command of both languages and I enjoyed listening to him. His accent is very fluent and he ensures that he does not rush to finish a sentence. His pace is well calculated to ensure good understanding.

Samson Kamau, Manager of Commercial Services, Kenya Electricity Transmission Co. Ltd

In a professional capacity, I found Yves to be an excellent and dedicated teacher. He was punctual, well-prepared and had an excellent rapport with the students who were fully engaged in his classes. Mr Stranger was a member of the evening class team at Sandford from 2001 until 2004 and his departure was a loss to the programme.

Mr Stranger is an exceptionally talented and gifted linguist. Being of French and British parentage, he is totally fluent in both languages , writing as a native-speaker in both languages, each of which has a very different approach to writing.
With his knowledge of Ethiopia and her cultural diversity, he has a a depth of understanding unusual in an outsider. His travel articles for various publication as well as his customised equestrian packages for those wishing to see Ethiopia from the saddle have shown his ability in the field of tourism.

Lilla Heaslip (MBE) Director of EFL, Sandford School

I wished to thank you for your perfect interpreting during our Global Education Parnership in Addis Ababa as well as for your flexibiliy in accomodating our heavy schedule.

Gisele Goudiaby, World Bank

Monsieur Stranger,

Yves a parfaitement réussi l’exercice. Merci Monsieur Stranger.

Hugues Fontaine, author & photographer

Yves Stranger is one of the most reliable leaders we have ever had the pleasure of working with. His attention to detail, his consummate desire to go beyond the call of duty, and his unflappable affability make him truly exceptional. If I could clone him, I would.

Jonny Bealby, founder of Wild Frontiers

I am the director of an adventure travel company based in the UK which specialises in horse riding holidays around the world. For several years Yves Stranger arranged riding and walking trips for us in Ethiopia and guided a number of our clients.I have myself travelled personally with Yves. I was delighted with his knowledge of the country, its languages, peoples and customs, and with his ability to run the trips safely. His genuine enthusiasm for Ethiopia, which he shared with our group, was exceptional and certainly made it a very special adventure.

Nigel Harvey, Ride World Wide

It is a privilege to travel in Ethiopia with Yves Stranger, his knowledge and love of the country opens a door; giving one a real insight into life there. He is a scholarly adventurer of the old school, like Burton or Thesiger, but perhaps slightly more sympathetic to us feebler modern travelers. I hope he will lead many an expedition.

Fiona Cameron, Jeweller

Thank you for your fluent and able interpreting provided  to the Geneva Centre for Security Policy during the training for Defence Attaches in Addis Ababa. We are very happy with the French-English and English-French interpreting you have now provided to our intensive and highly technical one week training workshop for three years in a row.

Brigadier General (retd) Phillipe Meyer, Chief Operating Officer @ Geneva Centre for Security Policy

Thank you for your excellent work during our workshop on collective land tenure – I really appreciated your interpreting in French and English on a subject that was complex and highly technical – great work!

Dr. Jes Weigelt, Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (Potsdam)

I worked with Mr. Stranger during two African Union summits and found him very  easy to work with and nuanced in his interpretation – a consummate professional

Linda McMullen, Political/Public Diplomacy Officer at the US Mission to the African Union
